35 Tips For Freelance Writers To Earn A Lot

entrepreneur-593356_1280

A lot is a vague and relative word, so if you are just thinking about becoming a freelance writer, I’m going to get you started.  If you are earning something as a freelance writer, even as little as $60 a post, I’ll show you how to get it up to more.  If you are beyond that in the “couple of hundred dollars per article” range, I still have something for you.  If you are looking to make a living as just a freelance writer, you can benefit from the experiences of some real freelancers who are already really doing it!

1.  Believe

It is easy to believe you can’t make any money writing, because with writing, everyone is doing it…blogging, microblogging, and self-publishing.  So the first thing you have to do is BELIEVE that you can make money writing.  The second thing you need to do is BELIEVE your writing is worth money, a lot of money, because it is uniquely yours.  But you still have to build your career as a paid freelance writer brick by brick, just like a house.

2. Start Your Website/Blog

There are freelance writers without websites and social media pages, but more and more DO have their own websites.  I build websites for individuals and they are older professionals who already have been published in print or on other outlets.  They have been told by their agent or their publishing company that they have to have a website.  You need to at least go to WordPress or Tumblr or Blogger and start a free site.  Start blogging.  Get yourself comfortable online.

3.  Start Contributing

I’m sorry, but sometimes you have to start from 0, and that means self-publishing on your lonesome on your little-known website, and then from there, find websites that allow you to contribute for little or no compensation.  I’ve found some just from dumb luck, like Engaged Marriage and here on Tips and Fun but I also found websites that need freelance writers by following where other writers publish their works.

And if you want to get paid, says Professor Rich Martin of Illinois University, a professor and freelance writer, you must remember everyone has opinions and opinions are free, so doing something more akin to reporting on a subject with market value is the way to go.  Before you pitch a story, you must understand the value of the pitch to the outlet itself, adds Professor Mike Taylor of Henderson State University.   So find some outlets that pay you to contribute, but don’t underestimate.  You are still applying for a job.  Respect that.  You have to be able to point to previously published work, or what can be called an online clip file or portfolio.  The more outlets that have published you independently (even if they didn’t pay you), the more help you’ll get to land jobs that will pay.

And you never know where writing will take you!!!

4.  Promote Thyself

So you have self-published and blogged, then found a few outlets that allowed you to contribute, but you still need help getting paid.  What you need to do is demonstrate that the public likes you.  By putting yourself out there on social media and by cultivating a fan base you are bringing your name market value.  So, when people find you, can they follow you on Twitter?  Can they like your page on Facebook?  Are you G+ worthy?  Can they Linkedin? Go forth and promote thy self!  And ask family and friends to do so, too!  Also, writers scratch other writers’ backs!  So follow back, share, and promote others.

*Caution:  Don’t let social media suck you in so much you neglect your real writing!

5.  Be Professional

You can be creative and quirky on social media and in your writing, but you want a completed professional profile on sites like LinkedIn with growing lists of your previously published works.  All professional and creative writing experience is worth mentioning if it is complimentary to you career.

6.  Learn To Network

Learning to network is actually something that will not only get you more writing gigs or a permanent salaried position, but it will help BOOST number four – PROMOTE THYSELF.  High school is not too early! College is not premature!  Now is not to become NEVER.  Learn how to make contact and network.  It is a NUMBERS GAME.  And if you don’t do it, you are liable to be watching others do it, skillfully, while your dreams become dusty.

*FYI:  Did you know if you are in need of interviews, you can post a story idea and solicit experts called Help A Reporter Out?  That tip came from just talking to another freelance writer.

7.  Be Credible

It isn’t worse than underselling yourself…  but overselling yourself can hurt your credibility.  So be enthusiastic and not shy about your accomplishments, but don’t stretch them.

Also, if someone didn’t say it, don’t print it as if they did.  Making up direct quotes can seem harmless and even justifiable, but when it becomes a practice, like with the Independent’s star columnist Johann Hari, you wind up risking getting known as someone who doesn’t have credibility.  Believe me, you’ll have enough doubters and nay-sayers in your future, but you don’t want to give them the appearance of being right about you. If they are the only ones crying foul when your print goes live, then your editors and your public will have your back.  But if you are being less than credible, you’ll get blackballed.

*Tip:  If you are interviewing, ask to record and then keep the recording as backup.  Video chats allow you to record and save.  A mini voice recorder is only a few dollars.  Most computers have a jack for a microphone or have an internal microphone. RECORD asking for permission and getting consent!!!

8.  Be The Boss

No one likes to be caught making mistakes by a superior, and that is why YOU have to be the boss – or as a writer – you have to be your own worst editor, a fierce editor, if you want to make good money.  From being around professional editors, people publishing their own books, and having done copy editing on books, articles, and essays, I know mistakes can go unnoticed all the way up to print.  We all go blind to print.  Errors just don’t pop up and wave a red hand!  They don’t correct themselves.  I know there are disagreements about what is more correct, as well as there are stylistic disagreements.  And we all go blind to our writing after reading it a dozen times.  But you have to be your own fierce editor, or it will be the hordes that will notice your slip-ups.  And if you are UNLUCKY, your mistakes will erode or corrode your professional career.

*FYI: The internet promises to haunt us forever every time we publish something.  It even backs-up our mistakes!  Like with the Way Back Machine!

9.  Get The Bible

No, I’m not talking about religion, but I might as well be, because different organizations whether they are online magazines or newspapers or publishing houses, they have what are called writer guidelines or just style guides.  The more academic the writing, the more tricky and sticky the guides can become.  On a copy editing assignment, the draft of the book I was to copy edit came with a book of its own – the publishing house’s style guidebook.  And yes, I did have to refer to it.  I even had to use the copy editing symbols per their instructions on the hard copies.  It was like learning another language, a short and symbolic little language from tiny little people with pointy heads.

I think that was the year my vision got worse…

10.  Take Care Of Your Eyes

Along with taking care of your brain and the body that houses it, just know, that the more screen time you take on, the more of a strain your eyes can be under.  If you want to be a writer and a writer that makes money, take care of your eyes.  Get the glasses with the better coatings – glare is bad.  Buy UV protection, too.  The ability to focus on near and far objects begins to diminish at age 40, but don’t accelerate the process.  Other things to help alleviate the strain of screen time are keep your screen within 20 to 28 inches of your eyes, adjust lighting to reduce glare, and look away from the computer for 20 seconds or longer every 20 minutes.  For comfort, keep your eyes hydrated.  For more tips, check out the American Optometric Association or Google “Computer Vision Syndrome.”

11.  Become A Follower

I’m not talking in the cultist, drooling-zombie sense, but you need to find writers you like, love, and admire, then follow them and their careers.  Check out successful writers’ websites.  Pick-up their tips.  Mimic some of their tricks.  If they have successfully contributed to X, Y, or Z, then why not you?  Follow the breadcrumbs.  After researching the outlets, apply and pitch stories.

12.  Be Organized

Start bookmarking and revisiting the articles, writers, and outlets that you like and love.  Find apps and extensions that will help you keep your stuff however you need.  You’ll develop a system that works for you, and this will make you faster and less frustrated.  No two people have the same system, but if a friend has one you like, try it.  If a knew app comes out that is getting a lot of positive feedback, check it out.  And just because it works for others, don’t think it has to work for you.  The most important thing in being organized is that it works for you!  I liked to fold paper length ways in half to write notes.  I even have a special way of underscoring that is more aesthetic than anything.  But being organized MY WAY has been great for me.  It isn’t a matter of HOW.  It is a matter of just DOING.

13.  Start Specializing

Sometimes a theme picks you and sometimes you pick a theme, but when it happens, recognize that you might be able to build a career out of it.  Right now, people who can write about apps seems hot, just like it seems hot for people to be able to create them.  If the technology thing is your thing, great, go for it!  If you are more into all things cats, then maybe you need to focus on outlets that have a cat fetish, too.  Writes get known for certain topics.  I know a writer who makes a living writing about Southern American authors only.  She loved Southern literature and it just evolved into a career for her.  One gal loved action movies, so she started the blog  Action Flick Chick –  she blogged her theme into a career.  Alex Langley loved all things geek, so he turned them into a writing career and sells books and more!

14.  Become The Expert

After you specialize, you need to become THE expert – or as near to it as possible.  This mashes up with CREDIBILITY.  If you write a lot about health and medicine, you don’t need to be a doctor, although that would be GREAT, but you need to be able to converse comfortably with doctors about health and medicine, then break it down for the general public to understand. With a topic or theme like running, maybe you should train for a marathon to get a real expert understanding of the topic.  You don’t need to have a medal in the sport, but you need to have a deeper than average understanding about what you are writing about – then you need to demonstrate your expertise all ways possible.

15.  Write  WRITE  WRITE!!!

It is cliche, but as Billy Crystal said in Throw Momma From From The Train, “A writer writes – always!”  (check out minute marker 2:44) Like with any skill, it gets honed with use and challenges.  I’ve read the prose and cons of writing everyday.  I’ve read opinion blogs that claim minimum word counts each day are imperative.   I can’t vouch for that.  I do know that when the muse is with me, I have got go with it and write my heart out; because when the muse is gone, and I am staring at the blank page of death, I’m going to need all the skill I have to defeat it.  Learn what loosens you up, like journaling, or poetry writing, or even a DEADLINE!

One of the sayings I’ve come to believe in is “Deadlines make writers.”  So take on assignments even when you feel the muse is slipping away.

But while you are writing, you might as well be getting paid, so look into content mills:  Text Broker, iWriter, Skyword, Zerys, Constant Content.

And look into Reddit For Hire.

The more places you can be found on the internet, the larger that online portfolio becomes, the more credibility you have.  So write, Write, WRITE!

Now, you have started something. You are a contributor.  You’ve gotten paid.  And you write Write WRITE!

Now it is time to aim higher because you have become a professional, built-up a network, a career, and have credibility.

16.  Ask For Testimonials And Endorsements

Just like with “Promoting Thyself” you need to ask people for some testimonials and endorsements.  These you place on your website, but you also need them on your very professional LinkedIn page.

Be prepared for people to ask you what you want them to say.  It is OK to have something prepared.  Some people just need to know what you want to highlight.  Be polite, but persistent.  You are probably asking for the endorsements of people who are successful and therefor busy.  But you need them none-the-less.  Don’t bug them everyday.  But tapping colleagues on the shoulder once a week or every two weeks isn’t bad.  You may be better off asking them when you know their workload is lightest.  But get those endorsements in writing  IN WRITING!

17.  Target Your Pitches

You want to make money?  By now you need to have some idea of who to target so you can write for money.  Then you need to decide who has the money that you want to make.  This requires researching the companies or outlets as well as just going for it on a whim.  Trust your instincts. But you need to be writing and targeting your pitches for profit.  Know the market value of what you are pitching.  Know what the outlet values that you are pitching to.  Pitch a lot and often adds Professor Taylor.  Few pitches get accepted, so develop a thick skin.

18.  Name Your Price

No, you’re not worth a million dollars yet, but you aren’t chump change anymore.  Ask yourself how much you are worth.  You can approach this from two ways – by thinking of your competency and amount of time  OR  what you think they are willing to pay.  It is a good idea to consider that you could get paid more doing short fluff pieces you bang out in 15 minutes versus the heart and soul research piece you did about your passion.  Sometimes there is payday.  Sometimes writing will b barely worth the effort if it wasn’t for that annoying desire to pen something.

You will be worth more than you are ever paid.

$250 – $500 per gig shouldn’t be unrealistic for a decent story.

Blog posts seem to be hovering at $60.

19.  Build Your Skills

Do you know what SEO is?  Do you know what a hashtag is?  or trending refers to?  Or are you #clueless?  You can’t be.  You shouldn’t be.  It’s time to learn.  Get on a browser and start asking questions.  Find some books and read.

20.  Self Promotion and Marketing

This is beyond “Promote Thyself” and “Ask for Testimonials and Endorsements.”  There is a level of sophistication here that will have you reworking your website and social media pages.  You are a brand.  What is your brand saying?   You may have lucked into a sweet spot because you are a character and can bra-ring it!  You were born a social butterfly.  Your momma was Paris Flippin Hilton and your daddy was JayZ.  You get paid to dine at clubs because you are so poppin.  You are current and trendy or deep and soulful.  But if you are socially challenged, this might be the hardest pill to swallow.  It isn’t good enough to be good enough.

You have got to be somebody BEFORE you can be somebody.

And somebodies get paid.

21.  Ear to the Ground

By now you have to have a network worth listening to, and word of mouth is going to become more and more important.  Yes, some of these same people are going to be your competition, but at the same time, they are leaving breadcrumbs.  When people talk, listen up.  When people are getting hired, bookmark the outlet.  When someone else’s star starts to rise, what were they doing and who are they with now?

22.  Time to Move

One thing I have noticed, even if it is an internet world of interconnectedness and telecommuting, the rising stars are still the ones that can live in the hotbeds of media consumption.  New York.  Paris.  Chicago.  Atlanta.  Miami. Dallas.  London.  Sydney.   Looking at job listings for freelance work, you may start seeing that what sites are looking for aren’t just bits of content about your dairy farm or maple syrup forest or your vampire fetish or love of Depression Era glassware.  You want to write and write for big money?  Is that seriously going to happen from your bedroom in your pajamas with the topic and themes you’ve picked?

Professor Taylor does caution that moving IS NOT NECESSARY even in rural areas, but you may have to look at outlets with interest in your area like a state outlet or specialize in a way that complements where you live and how you live.  A friend of mine makes money writing about hunting and fishing and lives in the country near a lake with bass fishing competitions.  But if your interest or specialty is New York crime, it might be best to be a New Yorker.  Decide if your interest is regional enough to require a move.

23.  Connect More Seriously

You’ve built a following, but how do you make it mean more?  You take your social media connections and ask them to link with you on LinkedIn by giving them your email address.  You have been a follower, but you need to start showing as worth following, and that means beefing up those numbers on the networks that matter.  Where are your clients coming from or where should they come from?  Susan Johnson blogged about it on her website, The Urban Muse.

24.  Group Participation

Maybe you hung out in the back of the classroom and wore your hat low over your eyes to avoid being called on, but the cool kid or shy kid routine isn’t going to work – any longer.  When you are on LinkedIn or another platform, you need to be in professional groups, and you need to participate in a professional manner.  Then you need to take your successful interactions to build your connections, self-promote, and find better gigs.

I know, it would be great if the jobs would fall out of the sky (check out minute marker 10:18), but it seems only bird poop and acid rain REALLY does.  You are going to have to stick your neck out and get real.

25.  New Networks & New Horizons

Once you have exhausted a network or have just hit a wall on how else to exploit it to your advantage, it is time to find a new one.  Think about Freelancer Union or any other site that allows you to connect with others.  Have you heard of something new or better?  Then go for it.  Facebook is very much alive and kicking, but it doesn’t mean that it is the best thing if you want to continue to grow.

26.  Guard Your Sleep Time

Maybe before you were not writing as much or for much, but now that you are, you need to protect your A game!  And if you are 30 or over, you may start to feel a bad night in even more pronounced way.  Don’t expect editors or readers to understand a slackening in you writing standards or theirs.  You still have to deliver.  You’ve made writing your priority and your goal of writing for money a reality, and you want to make more money, so make sure you are sleeping well.  The clearer your head, the faster you can work.

27.  Get Better At Math!!!

If you are serious about supporting yourself as a freelance writer, you are going to have to get better at math.  You need to understand how much you get paid and how it breaks down.  You have to understand how taxes, health insurance, and retirement should be factoring in.  Have you joined a union?  Do you need to join a union?  Do you have an accountant?  Is your paperweight of a dead laptop or smartphone NOW tax deductible?!    You love to write, and you’ve proven you can make money and you can make more money, but can you support yourself fully?  Read what other writers are saying and go check out some books.  Talk to an accountant.  Interview some accountants.  If you want to make this your living, this is the point of switching gears.

28.  Renovate Your Online Website

We’d all like to think we could launch a professional and perfect website right out of the gate and that is what we should do, but it might be a good idea to at the very least to update your websites (yes, plural) and give them a face lift.  Look at what other relevant, in the now freelancers are doing, how they are projecting themselves.  Go and be in awe at their professional websites.  Then HIRE whoever did one of your favorites and get your overhaul done!  You can’t do it yourself.  It would be like defending yourself in court or doing your own taxes.  Even if you have skills, you need a team of professionals with the full toolkit at their disposal.  And you have to use your time to grow, promote, and WRITE.  So hire experts.

29.  Realize That This Is Your Day Job

You aren’t moonlighting or part-time.  Decide and commit that this is your day job, your career, your life.  You are taking off the training wheels.  You have even saved up for six months of unemployment and have insurance in case you are injured and can not work.   This is the moment of complete realization.  YOU DID IT!  Now, don’t go screwing it up!!

30.  Know Thyself

One of the things you will notice when people pitch their business ideas is they have done market research and know their numbers.  Do you know your numbers?  One freelance writer had herself broken down in charts as to where her work came from and who her readership was.  She came with clout.  She owns her numbers.  She knew where her referrals were coming from.  Do you?  At this stage of the game, how many Twitter followers do you have?  Facebook likers?  G+ uppers?  Can you SEO and metadata like a champ?  You are a business.  You are a brand.  Know thyself, put it out there, and don’t be in the game, play it like you mean it.  Where is your clout?

31.  Be Ready to Diversify

Yes, you are a freelance writer, but has it become a springboard for something more lucrative?  Is there a service or a product that your writing career has enabled you to take advantage of?  Many writers have websites that hosts ads and sell their own books.  The trend that has evolved is this:

Step 1) Write online about a topic.

Step 2)  Get guest writing spots about the topic.

Step 3)  Get book published about the topic.

Step 4)  Get better paying gigs to write about topic and promote book and self.

Step 5)  Land a sustainable job related to writing, the topic, or both.

32.  Never Underestimate Technology In Changing The Game

The freelance writers I spoke to began publishing online when the internet was new, 1992. Technology has changed not only the pay scale, but the requirements of the outlets.  Rules changed.  Long form writing became short form. Pictures and visuals became big.  Interaction is now huge.  These changes were all forced by technology.  Learn what the results are, like with Snow Falling, a form of writing that is a mash-up of text, visuals, and interactive graphics named after a story that personifies it.

33.  Rock the Boat

It might be safe or comfortable to do what you have always done, or to do what all others have done before you, but if you are going to leap ahead of the herd and feast on greener grasses, you’re going to have to break some eggs, shake a tail feather, go for the golden ring!  In a nutshell, these mixed metaphors are trying to tell you that you need to do what hasn’t been done or do what has been done DIFFERENTLY.

Be the king or queen of reinvention.

34.  Keep Growing

Once you’ve had a blog, once you’ve grown your portfolio of by lines, once you clip file has gotten fat, ask yourself, can you turn a blog into a book?  Because you have published and gotten attention and have a crowd of fans to prove it, you’ve already PROVEN to PUBLISHING COMPANIES that you have something worth publishing!  Easily accepted, you publish, get promoted, grow a larger, new fan base, and then GET MORE WRITING ASSIGNMENTS!!!  And for more money!  YOUR STOCK KEEPS GOING UP! And this wonderful cycle is the one you need to shoot for – check out writers – real writers – with careers – and you will see a book!

35.  Stay Thirsty My Friends

Ambition will keep you thirsting for accomplishment.  Setting new goals will keep you thirsting for accomplishment.  Finding more fascinating things to write about will keep you thirsting.  Being in competition with other writers will keep you thirsting.  Being in competition with yourself will keep you thirsting.

And staying thirsty will keep you and your career alive.

Make More Money: 5 Amazing Ideas That Will Help You Prosper In 2015

makemoremoney

I’m a huge advocate of making extra income and dabbling in entrepreneurship. In some cases, this side income can make enough to quit a bad 9-5 job and open up some new possibilities. From there the fun begins as we take a hold of our own lives and experience financial freedom!

So here are 5 ways you can make more money in 2015.

1. Rent out your car, bike, boat, outdoor equipment & extra land

If you’re not using it then why not make money off that asset? You could be making $250 a week from that nice bike you bought last Christmas or rent your extra car out and make an extra $2,000 a month!

2. Renting out your space

People always need storage. You can charge people to store stuff at your house – a spare bedroom or basement would work perfectly.

You probably have a friend or family member that needs your help with this right now. A few boxes in an area of the house you’re not using are a perfect idea when you need some fast cash. Think about those self-storage places; they make an absolute fortune! You would be solving a huge problem for people and creating an easy flow of income. Cha-ching!

Try posting an ad for this on Craigslist and start interviewing or try this:

  • Roost (Predominantly in San Franciso, California but expanding nationwide. Make $3,000 a year)

roost

  • Sparechair (Launching soon. The twist here is people can use your space to work at home without being at home. The company is looking to help people network by making coworking fun and profitable. You can charge $10-$20 a day)

  • Peerspace (If your space is creatively designed and can allow for groups of people to work then consider this)

peerspace

You can even rent out areas of your home to filmmakers and producers:

  • Setscouter (If a director selects your home you can make up to $4,500 per day)

3. Drive people around

The days of investing money to purchase a taxi business have changed. Today you can freely partner up with a driving company and make $200-500 a day driving people with your own car. If you’re worried about insurance these companies take care of it all. The cool thing about this is you can be a driver whenever you want or treat it like a regular job and make approximately $65,000 or more a year.

Wondering where you’ll find paying customers? It’s all in the mobile app which you can download and check out now. For more information visit:

  • Uber (Available in most major cities)

  • Lyft (Just like Uber but with a cute pink mustache)

4. Voiceover

There’s a chance your voice is the type someone is looking for in their online or radio commercial. You’ll never know until you try. So find a quiet room away from distraction, stand up to project your voice, and record some samples. You don’t need the most professional equipment right now. Just use your mobile phone or computer microphone. Try these website’s for voice over work:

5. Writing blog posts

There are more than a few blogs that you might follow. How much have you learned from reading, liking, commenting, and sharing this information? Quite a bit, I bet! If you enjoy it consider offering to write articles for them.

You don’t have to be a literary giant. Your thoughts are your thoughts and they’re valuable – treat them as such. You should get about 25 bucks per article which can take roughly 30 minutes to research and 30 minutes to write. If you write 40, you’ve got $1,000 – just like that! This is like working a 40 hour work week while staying in the comforts of home.

Here’s one source writers can make $30 a short blog post and $65 a long blog post:

5 Extremely Easy Ways To Backup Your Computer

computer-problem-152211_1280

One surefire way to ruin a day is to find that your laptop/computer has been compromised. The culprit could be an accidental spill, drop, or even a virus, but all of a sudden your life is gone. All emails, pictures, jokes, projects, and bookmarks that make your life easy—Gone! In order to be ready for this crisis, it is necessary to make backups of the information you love and cherish. Here are a few ways to make sure all is not lost.

1. Cloud Programs like Crashplan, Carbonite, & Backblaze

The most effective backup method is via cloud service, which protects your information in cyberspace. Another more traditional method is through a restore function within your computer or a hard copy backup of all your files. The reason the cloud services are more effective is that they update often without any work on your part. This type of backup is more inclusive. The likelihood of having different components backed up, such as photos, music, bookmarks, saved emails, and files is significantly higher. It simply provides the most up-to-date info accessible through an internet connection. You can also be selective of what you want to backup. For example, you could opt to never have temporary internet files backed up. This may be a good thing if your source of the crash was a virus downloaded via an internet app or email.

A major drawback to this type of backup is that cloud drives can be susceptible to hacking. The data is stored in cyberspace, where it may be at risk. This is something that needs to be researched with any cloud service. Each company has a security protocol, and it would be wise to find out if that company has ever been hacked or how it is rated among all the other cloud services out there. Like every industry, there are always good ones and then better ones.

2. Internal Backup

Most operating systems now have a “time machine” function where you can restore your computer to an earlier date. When you shut down each day, your computer saves all the programs and updates through that date. Being able to go back to a prior date might allow you to work around a suspicious file that has been downloaded that may be a virus or some other malware. This also is the simplest way to restore all your information. Internal backup systems on both Windows and Mac operating systems have become much more user-friendly over the years.

The downside of this is that other files may not be saved. Peripheral data obtained via the internet or files downloaded after the restore date may no longer be accessible. This could be very frustrating if, for instance, you collected many diverse sources for a project and then had your computer crash. Some of the research or even the breadcrumbs that may have led you to sources may not be readily apparent, and you risk having to reinvent the wheel.

3. External Hardrive

Investing in an external drive to store major files may be a good idea. This is sort of an old-school but comfortable way to have privacy and protection. This is what most people have seen IT departments use to restore computer function in the past. There are many who trust this alternative more than any other. It is user-dependent, since what is saved is what you consciously backed up. It has known parameters without external factors (relying on software or security) to protect your information.

The downfall is that if you have not backed up information recently, you might lose necessary or vital information and programs accessed since your last backup. This is the biggest problem with this sort of backup—it takes diligence to remember to backup information. It is common for people to forget to backup or save their work, and that human flaw can make your life harder if you depend on this method.

4. CD Backup

This is a more primitive method of system restore. Burning the inventory to a CD will, of course, provide you access to those files up until the date of it being burned; however, you have multiple discs to contend with as well as errors in burning that you may not have caught at the time you backed up those files. It may be unreliable to a degree. This sort of safety net allows for a great deal of issues, such as having incomplete copies of programs, glitches within the burning process, disk defectiveness, and human error. These all could be factors in making your day much more complicated.

5. Thumbdrive Backup

The most basic of backups of only prominent files to a thumbdrive is the most limited form of backup. Thumbdrives have relatively limited space and thus can not store much data. However, this is a very easy way to save information that came be taken anywhere at any time. You can take your entire desktop on vacation via a thumbdrive. The only drawback is the space capacity of the drive itself.

Using one or varying combinations of these sorts of backup methods will help to save you time and frustration when your computer crashes. It is better to be prepared, despite the cost of and amount of thought and energy needed to make such alternatives viable or more practical for the amount of information, the level of security, and the accessibility that you personally feel comfortable with. Each of these ways provides the basic remedy for the problem of a computer that has crashed. It comes down to personal choice, preference, and comfort. Which way works for you?

Challenge Yourself To Avoid These 10 Frivolous Expenses For One Month

4626928612_95d57d8aee_b

Did you know that simply by having one Starbucks coffee per day, five days per week, that you are spending over $1,000 per year? Just think about what else you could be doing with that money. We all spend money unnecessarily. After all, we think nothing of spending a couple of dollars here and there. But, every penny adds up, and we spend thousands of dollars each year on things that we really don’t need. Here are 10 avoidable expenses that most of us are guilty of wasting money on.

1. Daily Lunches

As a busy person, you may not have time to make lunches to take to work, so you spend money to eat out every day. No matter where you go, you are going to spend at least $5 per day. That adds up to over $1,000 each year. Make your lunches at home the night before to save time and money. Here are great healthy lunch recipes all clock in at $3 or less per serving.

2. Weekly Pizza Night

If you get a pizza for your family once a week, you are spending at least $20 to $30 each week. That adds up to $1,000 or more each year. Sure, we all need to treat ourselves now and again, and who doesn’t like pizza? But, why not cut back to one pizza night a month. You will be saving $60 to $90 per month, or more. Also, there are always great tasting grocery store pizza that could cost you only $5-$6.

3. Travel

You may love to travel, but it gets pretty expensive after a while. You can’t get a decent motel room for less than $100 per night, and then you have to pay for meals, and have spending money. You also have to spend a lot on airfares. Instead of giving up on travel, find ways to have budget vacations. For instance, you can get great deals on airfares at Kayak and Airfares Flights. Find a bidding site to bid for less expensive hotel rooms and find local eating deals through that city’s online coupons and meal deals.

4. Books

The cost of books gets higher and higher all the time. A cheap paperback novel now costs upwards of $10. Reading shouldn’t have to be a luxury. But, instead of spending a lot of money on books, why not get them from your local library for free? Book getting can be accomplished with a Kindle Unlimited membership for just $9.99 a month as well.

5. Clothing

You don’t need to have three closets full of clothing, or hundreds of pairs of shoes. All a person really needs are a few main pieces, a few accent pieces, three to four pairs of shoes, and some accessories. You can save money by cutting back on clothes shopping. You can make money if you clean out your closets and sell all those clothes you aren’t even wearing. Neighborhood swapping party to get new sizes that the kids or you need also is a great way to save money on your clothes.

6. Weekly Movie Nights

It’s nice to have date night with your significant other, but for two people to go to the movies, it costs upwards of $50 if you get popcorn and pop. You can save money by cutting back to one date night a month. Buying tickets at the Box Office will save you $1-2 that you’d pay for online booking. Find a late-run theater and watch movies later. You can still enjoy each other’s company by renting a movie or streaming on online. There are tremendous savings to be had with streaming movie options, investigate if one is a good fit for your household.

7. Beer

Beer, or any other alcoholic beverage, is expensive. It is even more costly when you choose to drink at a bar with friends instead of at home. By cutting back on the amount of alcohol you consume, you will be saving a lot of money. You may even lose weight and feel healthier. If you must socialize with a cocktail, choose Happy Hour times, some places even have late night reverse Happy Hour!

8. Lottery Tickets

Do you really need to spend money on those lottery tickets every week? Sure, winning is fun, but take a good look at what you spend compared to what you win, and you will realize just how much you have lost over the years. Perhaps making it an indulgence instead of a habit is a better fit. Maybe establish a ‘couch fund’- money found in the couch, for treats like this.

9. Treats for the Kids

Do you bring home treats for your kids every time you go shopping? This can get pretty expensive after a while. It also will cause your kids to not appreciate real treats. Cut back on the treats for the kids, save money, and as a bonus, this may help them to grow into adults who appreciate all that they do have.

10. Cigarettes

If you are a smoker, you are likely spending at least $10 per day on cigarettes, depending on how much you smoke. Quitting is hard, but it is well worth the effort. You will be saving over $3,000 per year, and improving your health. If you can start by weaning yourself down on the nicotine aspect with patches and the oral aspect with suckers, eventually you will thank yourself and feel better as well.

5 Things We Should Spend More Money On, And 5 Things We Should Not

packs-163497_1280

Imagine that you are sitting on the front porch of your house sipping lemonade with your family on a warm summer’s night. You sit back and reminisce with them about how you… bought the newest HG TV?

Materialistic gratification only lasts so long. It is said that our brains adapt to happiness. With materialistic things buying our happiness, we are successful for a brief moment. New things will lose their shine and we will lose our interest.

Instead of spending your money on things that will eventually be obsolete, try spending it on something that will make lasting memories. Memories become a part of our lives forever and help make us who we are. The good experiences will forever stay good in your mind forever and the bad ones turn into a funny anecdote in the future.

Below is a list of 5 things you should spend less money on and 5 things you should spend more money. Use these tips to save money so that you can spend it on experiences that will enrich the lives of you and those around you.

5 Things you shouldn’t spend too much money on:

1. Electronics

Electronics in this day and age are almost a necessity, but that doesn’t mean that you need to spend money to get the newest thing. The shiny new feeling of your devices are very short lived and it is almost guaranteed that there will be a newer and better model of the whatever device you own within the next year.

2. Home Decor Fads

There will always be a new popular theme to decorate your home with. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get the signature look you see in the magazine; there are always do it yourself ways to achieve the same look. You can make it an experience and a time to bond with friends and family.

3. Cars

Keeping up with the newest car models is not a smart lifestyle unless you can pay each of them off by the time the next model comes out. This is a way to get you into a never ending hole of debt. You will never have the title in your hands if you keep trading your car (half paid off) for this current year’s model (which probably cost more).

4. Newest Fashion

You don’t have to feel guilty about giving into buying new clothes, bags and shoes once in a while. But when it gets to the point where you are trying to get each new bag or pair of shoes for about $300 plus dollars, maybe you should skip out on one of these and save the money for something else. There is always going to be a new fad and there is no point on spending all your hard earned money and losing precious closet space on it.

5. Jewelry

Fancy jewelry is nice to have for formal occasions, at the office and when dancing on your night out. If you can afford to buy a two thousand dollar watch, good job. For the rest of us, there is a fine line between accessorizing and going into debt for shiny things.

5 Things you should spend more money on:

1.Education

There isn’t another feeling in the world that can compare to the feeling of starting to understand another language without thinking about it. Though some language classes are very pricey, they are worth it. Taking classes on different cultures, religion and different professions will open your mind to a whole different world.

It does not mean you need to convert your religion or change your job. It will simply mean that you have walked into a classroom with an open mind and have added the things you have been taught to your vault of knowledge. You may never know when it can come in handy.

2.Traveling

Traveling can be pricey at times, but it creates memories that last a life time- even the bad experiences. Typically we all laugh about the bad experiences later on in life. One trip to Europe can cost someone the same as good laptop and the long trips can cost less than a car you don’t really need but want.

Trade all those materialistic things in for a night under the Northern Lights, a kiss on the Eiffel Tower, or a long journey backpacking through the Alps.

3.Music

Learning to play an instrument is a great start to a new tradition in your family. You can pass this down to your children and make new memories. That is, of course, after you have told them about the ones you have when you learned to play.

You can also venture out and spend about a dollar or two to take a chance on a new genre. Who knows, you could end up with a couple (or a couple hundred) songs added to your music library.

4.Books

Book are always going to be something different with each reader that turns its’ pages. It is a completely different experience using your imagination to put the author’s words into images in your head. Books won’t ever require you to turn them on, charge them or restart them. They are things you can pass down from generation to generation.

It is a much different experience to sit somewhere, with a book in hand, with absolutely no distractions. Books are portals to explore completely different worlds with a turn of a page.

5.Food

Trying new food goes hand in hand with traveling the world. Instead of spending a few hundred on a bag, save it for some great food when out and about. Take some cooking classes on food from different cultures. In Italy, they offer cooking classes at a vineyard. You can learn from an Italian chef how to create a great meal. It is something you can take back home with you and teach friends and family.

There are several chocolatiers in Belgium that are worth spending the extra dime to appreciate a perfectly crafted truffle.

Remember…put your money into things that will create memories over the instant materialistic things. You don’t have to spend all of it on creating memories but if you do, it won’t be something you regret.

10 Things You Should Stop Doing In 2015 To Save More

10 Things You Should Start Doing In 2015 To Save More

Was one of your New Year resolutions to save more money in 2015?  After the holidays most people’s bank balances are suffering, but the New Year can be a great time to get hold of your finances and put some money aside.

Check out 10 things you can stop doing to save more money.

1. Stop spending without saving

If you spend a lot of money on one thing, from taxis to coffee to shoes, try using it as a spend and save item. Every time you splurge on your treat, put the exact amount in a savings account too. The best part is you don’t have to give up your vice, but you make savings every time you treat yourself.

2. Stop shopping without grocery apps

There are various apps available that will help you save money while you do your weekly shop. Try Checkout 51 and Shopmium, apps with special deals and offers. Once you’ve bought your items, take a picture of the receipt and both apps will refund you on any deals you bought.

The savings may only be a couple of dollars, but with every grocery shop you do the money will add up.

3. Stop buying lunch for work

Most people buy their lunch for work to save time, but making your own will give your bank account some serious relief. Store-bought lunches are often much more expensive than the home-made alternative, and over a year the prices can really add up. Save yourself money every week by making your own to bring in with you.

4. Stop buying coffee daily

While many people feel faint at the idea of tackling a working day without caffeine, switching to the coffee in your kitchen can save you some serious money. Buying one coffee a day may not seem like much, but it adds up over the year.

Try getting your caffeine fix before you leave the house, and taking a Thermos or bottle of tap water with you for the day to cut down costs.

5. Stop spending your wage impulsively

Even though it may seem difficult, most people can afford to put a little money aside each week. From $3 to $30, the amount will add up over 2015 and could put a serious dent in any debt and bills you have at the end of the year.

Keep your savings in a jar or envelope in a visible place in your house, so you remember to keep adding money to it every week.

6. Stop using your bank card

If you take out money at ATMs throughout the week, you could be spending more than you actually need to. Try working out exactly how much money you need at the beginning of the week, then take it all out and don’t use your card again. This can stop overspending on unnecessary luxuries such as taxis and snacks.

7. Stop spending so much on going out

Going out is a great chance to socialize and let your hair down. However – food, alcohol, taxis, tipping – the truth is that going out is often pricey. Take one week a month where you stay at home and save some money. Invite your friends around for a movie marathon and you will barely even notice your bank account is taking a rest.

8. Stop letting money flow away without records

Take a week where you write down how much you spend each day, and what on. This is a great way to know exactly how much you spend a week, and if you are spending any money you don’t need to. If you get buses regularly, work out if it would be cheaper for you to get a bus pass. Ask yourself: did I buy anything this week that was a waste of my money?

9. Stop choosing your dinner before you make it

Food can be cheap when you eat at home, but take-out and restaurant costs can more than triple your food budget. Try planning your meals and shopping for the ingredients at the beginning of every week to deter yourself from ordering in.

10. Stop guessing and start calculating

People often struggle to save when they don’t know exactly what they are saving for. Do you want to buy a house, a car, or pay off student debts? Focus on your goals and what you personally want to achieve. When you know what you’re saving for, work out exactly how much you need to save, and how long it will take you to do. Good luck!

12 Things Only Medical Students Will Understand

If you are an S1 (and only a med student will know what this means), then there are just some things that no one else will understand about your life, and how could they? Who else could learn to get comfortable being alone in an anatomy lab with nothing but dead bodies to talk to?

Who else could understand that holding a kidney in one’s hand is really kind of cool? Who could possibly understand that a First Aid text has nothing to do with the Red Cross course? Who else could be thrilled that a library is considering staying open 24 hours? And who else could possibly understand that anyone would actually choose 4 years of nothing but study, eating, no sleep and gallons of caffeine?

But the med student’s life is filled with many things the “lay” person won’t understand, and here’s 12 that are definitely on that list.

1. you Begin to speak in foreign tongue

A lot of your language seems to be related to Latin or Greek, but odd words are spilling forth from your mouth – words like integumentary, lingual artery, and glossopharyngeal nerve. And a lot of your words begin with things like “histo,” “lapar,” “hemat” and so on. People may not understand why you have a book on Latin and Greek etymology on your kitchen table, but it is one that you commonly use. Studying Greek and Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes lets you learn and remember medical terminology.

2.  People you went to undergrad school with are getting married and having kids, and you’re still living the “single life”

Though it isn’t their common definition of a single life. Your “singleness” is not comprised of being a “player” in romance and fun; it is having almost no social life for long periods. And you’re really happy every time one of your friends has a healthy, normal baby, especially after you begin to study all of the birth defects and genetic issues that exist. In fact, there are times when you wonder if you want to take the chance of having kids at all.

3. People who are leading “normal” lives may not understand what the “nightshift” really means.

Especially after they watch the TV series of the same name. Having the nightshift and/or being on call means you learn to depend heavily on caffeine and to take short power naps in strange places – a supply closet, a lounge chair, even standing against a wall. It does not mean that you have romance and personal drama that somehow gets resolved within an hour that is also filled with commercials; it does not mean that you magically come up with a difficult diagnosis and “save the day” and a really sick patient. It means you “shadow” an attending or monitor patients’ vitals.

4. You take odd jobs to pay the bills that your loans are not covering.

You hire yourself out as a pet or house sitter while people with normal lives take vacations. You mow lawns, and everyone thinks you are enjoying sun and fun from the tan you now “sport;” you tutor high school biology students while worried parents are wringing their hands over their kids’ grades. You don’t particularly like these jobs, but the alternative is eviction or Ramen noodles for the next four years. Maybe, it’s time to change something? Anna Maria College offers its personal list of jobs you can be engaged in and that actually pay well. They will be extremely helpful both for you and other people.

5. Hypochondria is a permanent condition.

People who develop “symptoms” get on Web.MD and read about all of the things that their symptoms could mean, and sometimes they rush to their doctors only to find that there is really nothing seriously wrong. These are amateurs compared to medical students. Imagine being in Pathology class every day and studying every disease known to man and its symptoms. Med students have “symptoms” on a daily basis and don’t need WebMD. They have their pathology texts to give it to the “straight.” This is what professional “hypochondria” is – developing new symptoms every single day!

6. “Normal” people can tell you why they chose the careers they did.

They are passionate about teaching children; they love programming and developing new apps; they love the challenges of accounting or engineering. You, on the other hand, spend time wondering why indeed you chose this profession. Here you are bleary-eyed in class, after an “all-nighter” at the hospital, knowing that your refrigerator is empty and wondering when you will find the time even to grocery shop; here you are in the anatomy lab looking at diseased livers and lungs. And you have pretty much figured out how much debt you will have when you finally do graduate and begin life as a pauper doing an internship and residency. But, somehow, the passion for medicine really does “trump” it all, and you move forward!

7. Talking to “lay” people just got a lot harder.

When you find yourself in social situations, you tend to talk about your latest successful diagnosis of a disease only you can pronounce, while they are talking about politics or the latest movie the saw. Worse yet, they begin to list all of their symptoms and assume that you can be the “resident” diagnostician. You resist the urge to tell them that they obviously have cancer, even though you will later tell them that it was just a joke.

8. You become somewhat of an expert on how to remove stains.

You take your lab coat off as soon as you leave your anatomy lab, because you know that there are creepy fluids and stains on it. You wad it up and stuff it in your bag, along with the other lab coats that have blood, urine, and other stains from hospital rounds, knowing that you cannot afford dry cleaning. But you do know which products will get those stains out, and you keep a constant supply of them when you go to the laundromat.

9. You develop some strange mannerisms when you study.

Others in the library or at Starbucks hear you talking to yourself; you walk around spouting mnemonics so that you can “cement” the lists of symptoms you must remember for every disease being covered in pathology class; your First Aid text goes with you everywhere, and you read aloud to yourself as your put your class notes in it. You have discussions with yourself, as if you had some invisible study “partner.”

10. You over-analyze.

When you are presented with a set of symptoms, you conduct a crazy amount of research, coming up with rare and little-known horrible diseases, when, in fact, they are the symptoms of some pretty common “ailments” – pregnancy, basic gastroenteritis, diabetes, etc. You learn that looking for the obvious should be the first step in a diagnosis!

11. Time becomes the major focus of your existence.

You try to schedule everything that must be done; you underestimate the amount of time it may take to review and re-write your course notes; you end up cancelling dates and meetings with friends because you are running out of time; in your hurried life, you may forget you brother’s birthday; your car “dies” because you haven’t had the time to get the routine maintenance done; you don’t return phone calls and haven’t checked your email in days. “Normal” people don’t understand why you can’t just drop everything and take care of some basic personal and social needs.

12. You hate “gunners”

Those students who must consistently brag about their grades, who always have the really “high level” questions to ask in class, just to “suck up” to their professors. The jerks who make everyone else “look” bad because they volunteer for extra time at the hospital. You vow never to become one of them and refuse to reveal your latest scores to your peers; you plug along happy with your “average” status, refusing to take the “bait” that “gunners” always throw out there. But, you also realize that no one else likes the “gunner” either, and the camaraderie you are developing with your peers is something they will never enjoy.

How to Transfer Credit on Etisalat Network The easy way to transfer credit on Etisalat, use the USSD command, *223*Password*Amount*Phone Number#. To transfer N250, for example, to subscriber 0809 222 6666, input *223*2345*250*08092226666# and press Send/Ok. Note that you must have at least 10 Naira balance remaining after subtracting the amount you wish to transfer for the credit transfer to work. Visit Etisalat website to get further details. Finally Airtime transfer is not reversible. Recall that all the above instructions are just examples. You can use any 4-digit number as your password or a 5- digit number in the case of Glo. Just choose a number that is difficult for others to guess, but easy for you to remember. Once you have changed your password, the new password should be used for transfer transactions. You can always change your password if you feel it has been compromised. In the event that you want to change your password, your current password will assume the place of your default password in the format given for each network for password change. For example, if you have already changed your MTN Share and Sell password from the default 0000 to 4235 and you want to edit it again to 6672, compose a text like this, 4235 6672 6672 and send it to 777, not 0000 6672 6672 this time because your current password is no longer 0000. This principle also applies to other networks. Airtime transfer services provided by all the networks are also accessible via their Service Menu on the phone. With these steps, you can now happily share your credit (airtime) with your friends and family. Remember to keep you PIN secret and safe though, as it is your only password to transfer. Good luck! You might not believe that is possible to hack 2go account but am telling you right now that is very possible and simple to hack 2go account. There are bad people out their Setting big trap for you on how to hack your 2go account easily.
2go Accounts are been hacked to gain personal Informations, Interest for gocredits etc.

Here are Some Strategies They Normal Use To Hack 2go Accounts   1. A friend of mine was chatting with one of his friends on 2go, and the guy told him to goto: www.2gopuse.wapka.mobi for him to get unlimited gocredits. (You know we 9ja guys, we like free things)
To cut the story short, his 2go account was hacked.
2. Do not download 2go by a guy Called Olayiwole. He call it 2go v7 with screenshot.zip Okay, you don’t believe me, download his 2go by  Click Here and check the file details, use your blueftp to open the file. You’ll see de.class.bak it has been programmed in his 2go but you won’t know.
Note: The above is to show you the little among the strategies which they are use to hacked 2go accounts, there are still lot of strategies which they are using to gain access to your account but you just need to be careful about them.

Some Tips To Safekeeping Your 2go Account From Being Hacked

1. Use Strong Password: Your names and nicks, parents, siblings or your pet names or even your birthday do not qualify. Use a mix of letters, digits and punctuate [but not blank spaces]. Use both upper and lowercase letters.
The longer your password, the better. The shorter your password, the easier it is to be hacked, especially if it’s a common word or name. A good starting point is six characters though 8, 10 or 12 are even better, also consider using an unusual phrase of words that only you or a few people might know, then substitute some of the letters with digits and punctuate. Humorous combination might make it easier to remember but otherwise write your password down in a safe place.
2. Change Your Password Regulary: I mean monthly or even weekly not yearly. Try and change your password after logging in with your friend’s phone unless you used a 2go that don’t retain login infomation.
3. 2go Can Never Ask You For Your Login Information, So therefore don’t tend to any 2go user that claims to be a 2go staff.
On A similar note, protect the sim that you used to registered for 2go, else someone can succeed in resetting your 2go password with the Sim Card.
4. Don’t Accept Friend Request From Unknown User Without A Profile Picture Or Unknown User With A Nude Pix As A Profile Picture: Boys now open a Female Account While Girls open a Male Account On 2go with aim of fishing the Passwords of their Victims. So I suggest don’t engage in any relationship with a 2go user you have never seen or heard from.
5. Don’t Believe Any Status Update Or Private Message From A 2go User Requesting Your Password For Star Boosting Or For Increase Of gocredits:

Warning to all 2go users: Don’t try to input your 2go details (i.e username and password) on any Site apart from 2go Official Site if you do, your 2go account would be hacked.
You might not be able to Login to your 2go account again. Also, your gocredits would be packed/Wiped away.

Your 2go Account can never be Hacked if you make use of the Tips above!
Obedience Is Better Than Sacrifice!

How to Secure Your Onlines Accounts from PHISHING Using By HACKERS

How to Secure Your Onlines Accounts from PHISHING Using By HACKERS

Phishing  according to Wikipedia, is the act of attempting to acquire information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly, money) by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Communications purporting to be from popular social web sites, auction sites, online payment processors or IT administrators are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting public.
Phishing can also be seen as an act of cloning a site e.g If someone want to hack your Facebook Account, He/She would need an Exact Page like the Facebook Homepage with a little PHP Code at the back of the Script and then Upload it online {usually hosted online free}, then share the link on facebook or other site and lie to you that you can Make or Get $1000 in 3 Days and all that kind of attractive lies and when you click on the Link, A Facebook Homepage will show up, If you dare input your Email and Password, The Details will be sent to the email address of the Hacker.
The example of Phishing site is the clone of 2go site made by an hacker and use it to lying to the people that if they enter their 2go username and password in to the site, they will get big 2go credit in the next 10minutes.
Click here to view the site and if you are doubting me, you may login to that site with your 2go username and password and see what will happen to your 2go account in the next 10 to 20 minutes.

Things to do with debit cards

Debit cards are used to pay for things. An online report by http://www.consumer.gov gives some facts about debit cards.
When you open an account at a bank or credit union, you usually get a debit card.
A debit card lets you spend money from your account without writing a cheque.
You can use your debit card to buy things in a store; you can use it at an ATM to get cash.
When you pay with a debit card, the money comes out of your account immediately. There is no bill to pay later.
Your bank or credit union gives you a ‘statement’ every month.
Your statement can help you track your spending and create a budget.
When you use a debit card, you are using money in your account to buy things.
You can get a debit card from the bank when you open an account; you don’t pay extra money in interest when you pay with the card.
You do not build a credit history using a debit card.
It will work online. But it is not a good way to pay when you shop online.
Someone might steal your debit card number online. The thief can take all your money out of your bank account. You might not have enough money in the account. That means your debit card will be ‘declined’. You will not be able to buy things.
Some banks and credit unions might let you sign up for ‘overdraft protection.’  That means you can use your debit card even when you do not have enough money to pay for the things you are buying. But you may have to pay a fee to the bank. Some banks may charge this fee for every purchase until you put enough money in your account to pay for the things you are buying.

We aren’t sure Chibok girls are in Sambisa Forest –Air chief

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, says the Nigerian Air Force has no intelligence on whether the Chibok girls are in Sambisa Forest or not.

Abubakar, who spoke during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Saturday, however, said the NAF was working round  the  clock to rescue the girls and other Nigerians abducted by Boko Haram.
The NAF chief also commented on the operation of the force in the South-South, saying the air force would not bomb Niger Delta.
When Abubakar was asked if the air force had any intelligence on whether Chibok girls were in the Sambisa Forest or not, he said, “Honestly we don’t. That is the truth of the matter. Even if you see women that are dressed in hijab, how are you sure they are women; that they are not men? It is only when you get there and they remove the hijab that you now realise that they are men and they have their rifles.
“There is no credible intelligence that will specifically tell you that these girls are here.”
He said the air force flew its planes daily with the hope of sighting the Chibok girls, adding that the military, like other Nigerians, was passionate about them.
He said about 50 per cent of the NAF flying missions in counter-insurgency operations were devoted to Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance.
According to him, the ISR is aimed at rescuing the Chibok girls and other Nigerians abducted by the sect.
He said, “There is no day that the sun rises and sets that we do not go out hoping to see these girls. From January this year to August 17, we flew 2,600 hours.   About 50 per cent of that was Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance.
“We are hoping that through the intelligence, we will be able to capture the movement of those girls; we will be able to locate what we consider legitimate targets.”
He dismissed the latest Boko Haram video, where the sect displayed some girls, which it claimed were killed by military bombardment, as cheap propaganda.
Abubakar explained that there was no way bodies of people killed by bombardment could be intact as shown in the video.
He stated, “Even the IED (improvised explosive device) that they (the sect) developed, have you ever seen a complete body together after an attack on any location?”
He insisted that what was shown in the video could not have been something that happened after an air strike.
He added, “These guys are just trying to whip up sentiment because they know that every Nigerian is concerned about the girls.”
He said although there was no military operation without collateral damage, the air force was doing everything possible to determine legitimate targets.
The air force chief said Sambisa forest, which is about 60,000 square kilometres, was a difficult terrain, especially for the land forces.
He explained that equipment could get stuck in the forest during the rainy season.
He added that with what the air force had seen from its reconnaissance, it was difficult to say that the place was still occupied.
Abubakar said with the logistics base of the sect destroyed by the air force, it would be easier for land forces to move into the forest during the dry season.
He also disclosed that the air force would soon commence its operations in the South-South.
He stated that the air force would not bomb the Niger Delta, but would protect the people and facilities.
“We are not going to bomb the Niger Delta;  we are going to protect the people and oil and gas infrastructure,” he stated.
He added that NAF had entered into partnership with 15 Nigerian universities and polytechnics, through which it had been producing spare parts to service grounded aircraft.
He said, “Our aircraft require spare parts from time to time. Since most of these spare parts are not available here, we need to look   inward.”
 BBOG marches to Aso Rock
The #BringBackOurGirls spokesman, Abdullahi Abdullahi, declined to comment on the air force statement that it had no intelligence on the Chibok girls.
“We don’t have any comment for now,” Abdullahi said on Sunday.
The group and parents of the abducted girls will, however, march to the Presidential Villa today (Monday).
The #BringBackOurGirls movement had, in a statement on Thursday, said it would commence street marches to the Presidential Villa from Monday (today), as part of measures to compel the Federal Government and the global community to take action to ‘‘rescue the 219 Chibok schoolgirls.’’
The group stated that it would also engage the media and other critical stakeholders, including international organisations and statesmen.
The BBOG, in a reminder to journalists on Sunday, explained that the planned march followed the lukewarm response from the government to the video of the girls that was released last week by Boko Haram.
“Areas to be covered during the period of engagement include the #ChibokGirls, the humanitarian crisis in the North-East, corruption in the disbursement of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons camps and the arms deal saga,” the group stated.
Meanwhile, a civil rights movement, Coalition Against Terrorism and Extremism, has demanded that Ahmed Salkida, Aisha Wakil and Ahmed Bolori, who were recently declared wanted by the military authorities, should assist in securing the release of the Chibok girls.
The organisation also appealed to the #Bring Back Our Girls team to direct its protests against Salkida, Wakil and Bolori.
Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, the National Coordinator of CATE, Gabriel Onoja, said  the three personalities named by the military possibly knew more about Boko Haram than the security agencies.
Onoja said, “We are appealing to the trio of Salkida, Wakil and Bolori and other persons with links with Boko Haram to prevail on the abductors of these girls to release them unconditionally.’’

NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS (NLC) CALL OFF STRIKE

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Sunday, May 22, called off its nationwide strike.
Speaking to journalists, the president of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba said the union is calling off the strike after several deliberations.
Wabba said the decision to call off the strike came after an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council of the NLC.
“After an exhaustive deliberation, NEC noted its protest action was informed by the twin issues of the unjustified and illegal hike in electricity tariff and increase in the pump price of petroleum products,” Wabba said.
He also said the council adjudged that the strike action is a success in spite of both internal and external challenges the union faced during the period.
“In consideration of the above, NEC after due consultation with its constituents resolved to suspend with immediate effect, the action it commenced on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. The action is thus hereby suspended,” he said.
He commended all those who participated in the action, stating that the union is committed to genuine dialogue within the framework of internationally established and recognized principles of representation with it and the Nigerian government.
He further condemned the activities of the security operatives especially the police in Ebonyi state. Also present at the briefing include, renowned activist and lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN).
